Ascension Island Government

Description

Ascension is a small volcanic island, situated in the South Atlantic, with a warm stable climate (26-34°C). Ascension is part of the wider British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. It is situated approximately 1,000 miles from the mainland of Africa and it is 800 miles from its nearest neighbour, the island of St Helena. To thrive here you must be resilient, adaptable and able to live in an incredibly small community.

Working for the Ascension Island Government (AIG) offers a unique opportunity to make a positive and practical difference to life on a remote UK Overseas Territory.

The AIG provides a diverse range of services to the local community, from construction to teaching to marine conservation. As a place to live and work, Ascension offers a positive work-life balance with all the attractions of island life right on your doorstep; an excellent climate, fishing, diving, snorkelling and walking to name a few.

During the application process for work individuals will be asked if they have any criminal convictions. This should exclude any spent convictions under Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, unless the job involves working with vulnerable adults or children. In this case cautions, bind-overs, pending prosecutions and spent convictions must be declared. If a post involves working with children or vulnerable adults, the Job Description will clearly outline a requirement for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check.
