Are you a NEBOSH level 3 qualified Health and Safety practitioner? Are you immediately available for a 3-month part time fixed term contract to support health and safety activity at the RSC? Do you promote and inspire a positive health and safety culture?

In this crucial role, as we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, you will provide competent advice to all employees and support the Health and Safety Manager in day-to-day health and safety matters, ensuring legal compliance and a positive and proactive approach to health and safety across the RSC.

It is an exciting time to join the RSC as we prepare to open the new Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Garden Theatre to deliver our Summer programme, gear up for our Autumn/Winter show, The Magician's Elephant and deliver the many other activities that we have programmed; the Health and Safety Advisor will have a pivotal role in supporting the opening of the outdoor theatre. You will be joining a busy, dedicated, and efficient team that have a positive impact on work in all departments at the RSC.

The right person for this role will hold a NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety or equivalent level 3 qualification and be a member of IOSH. You will enjoy working independently and as part of a team. You will be organised, managing, and prioritising your workload effectively; whilst the role will initially be home based, you will be required to undertake workplace inspections and other work activity as required on site around the estate in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Advising all staff on health and safety matters, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, adherence to occupations safety and health policies and procedures and legal compliance.
  • Carrying out incident investigations and writing reports.
  • Carrying out workplace inspections and producing reports and recommendations for actions.
  • Delivering or facilitating health and safety training courses, including health and safety inductions, both virtually and in-person.
  • Maintaining first aid rooms and first aid stock.
  • Building relationships, internally and with external networks.

The ideal candidate for this short-term role will have a rich health and safety background, in either theatre, production or the events and entertainment industry.

This position is offered as a part-time, 3-month fixed term contract, ideally starting in early July until the end of September. The role is based from home, but will require site visits to Stratford-upon-Avon, especially as the Garden Theatre work develops. The working hours are 28 hours per week, with earlier or later start times dependent on the needs of the candidate. This role may include occasional travel to London. .
