Sussex Wildlife Trust

Sussex Wildlife Trust is a conservation charity for everyone who cares about nature in Sussex. We focus on protecting the wonderfully rich natural life that is found across our towns, countryside and coast.  By working alongside local people we create opportunities for us all to connect with nature and for nature to thrive in even the most unlikely places.  Together we can make sure that future generations living in Sussex will be able to enjoy the sense of wonder and well-being that nature offers.

The Role

This is a new role in the recently established Operations Team and is pivotal in enabling the delivery of the Trust’s charitable objectives and strategy.  The Operations Manager will play an integral role in managing the health and safety regime across Trust facilities and nature reserves. Specifically supporting the Land Management team, the role will ensure compliance and health & safety best practice. Responsible for the portfolio of buildings, the Operations Manager will manage facilities including Trust offices across the county and the pop-up Café at Woods Mill as well as the full vehicle fleet. Driving forward the ‘Living Lightly’ agenda, the role will play a big part in minimising the carbon footprint of the Trust through travel and facility use.

The Person

You will need to have significant experience of managing health and safety compliance in high risk settings backed up by a relevant qualification. A knowledge of health and safety in forest and heathland settings will be an advantage. The successful candidate will be an experienced facility operator with a sound understanding of regulatory compliance and reporting. You will provide leadership and management to a small dedicated team and be a team player who can operate and make decisions independently. With a proactive and flexible attitude to work, you will need to work some evenings, weekends and unsociable hours as required.
