Job Description

Position: High Energy Laser Safety EngineerExperience: Will consider Staff Engineer/Scientist up to Sr. Engineer/Scientist level depending on relevant experience and expertise. Multiple potential hires are contemplated with different system engineering sub-discipline specialties. All applicants must possess CURRENT U.S. DoD Personnel Security Clearance Eligibility. Job Description: Develop, define, and track formal safety requirements for High Energy Laser (HEL) Weapon System and/or HEL Beam Control System (BCS). Develop safety standards, documentation, and training programs and manuals for both laser safety and general safety hazards. Perform safety related calculations for both laser safety and general safety hazards. Additional desired skills include (a) the ability to develop general systems engineering documentation, (b) support configuration management through the system design, development, integration, and test phases, and (c)track Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and associated allocations. The ideal applicant will be responsible for development of Interface Control Documents (IDCs) by combining inputs from multiple engineering disciplines. as well as the development and integration of artifacts for formal DoD acquisition design reviews (CoDR, SRR, PDR, IBR, etc.) Required Experience / Capability:1. Experience with ANSI and DoD Standards for Safety, including but not limited to: MIL-STD-882E, System Safety, and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), General Industry Regulations6. Experience with ANSI and DoD Standards for Laser Safety, including but not limited to: ANSI Z 136.1, ANSI Standards for Laser Safety, and MIL-STD-1425, Safety Design Requirements for Military Lasers and Associated Support Equipment, as well as FDA regulations.7. Develop and maintain documentation in support of formal DoD acquisition design reviews (i.e. CoDR, SRR, PDR, IBR, CDR, TRR, etc.)8. Configuration Management for laser and electro-optical systems, in particular for high power applications.9. Technical Report Writing (i.e. good technical writing skills are beneficial)10. Must have active DoD Security Clearance eligibility. Additional Desired Experience / Capability1. Develop and track modeling and allocations for Technical Performance Measurements.2. Experience in System Engineering tools: Model-based Systems Engineer tools (mandatory).3. Experience in development and delivery of electro-optical systems, preferably High Energy Laser systems and/or High Energy Laser Beam Control Systems.4. Experience in specification and evaluation of requirements for laser and electro-optical systems, in particular for high power applications.5. Experience with image processing algorithms and methods.6. Experience with electro-optical systems including acquisition, pointing, and tracking.7. Modeling and simulation of laser and electro-optical systems including analytic modeling and wave optical simulation-based modeling.8. Experience in MATLAB or C/C++/C#.
