Job Description

Health and Safety Manager 

Hours: 35 Hours per week Full time. It is expected that the post holder will work flexibly to meet the demands of the role.
Salary: This role attracts a remuneration package of between £30,000 to £35,000 per annum (depending on relevant experience)
Accountable to: Director of Estates and Trustees
Reports to: Director of Estates
Work Base: St Edmunds House, Bishop Crispian Way, Portsmouth

Outline of Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding, experienced Health Safety and Wellbeing (HS&W) professional who is values-driven to contribute at a parish level in the life of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth.

We are looking for someone who can bring intellect and emotional intelligence to operating in a complex environment. You will have a successful track record in providing reports to senior board level and have the personal touch to innovate and drive sustainable change. You will be an exceptional communicator who can quickly develop strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Fundamentally, too, you will be passionate about realising our vision of Bringing people closer to Jesus Christ through his Church.

This role will support the Diocese in all aspects of HS&W to ensure that the Diocese provides a safe physical environment to minimise risk to clergy, employees, and visitors. To assist the Trustees, Diocesan Curia and Diocesan Parishes in meeting their statutory obligations for HS&W matters at work, including statutory training and reporting and acting as the Diocesan Competent Person.  

You will have the NEBOSH Certificate and fire safety experience or qualifications, and a significant interest in property and facilities management, ideally also with experience of working in the charitable sector. You need to demonstrate that, working with clergy and others, you can influence and shape our health and safety and wellbeing strategies and plans. You must be able to balance the provision of strategic advice with a willingness to be hands on and directly lead on operational matters. You will demonstrate the ability to improve confidence in the HS&W agenda through high levels of competence and will be expected to role model the Diocesan Trust values and behaviours.
