Health and Safety Adviser

Department: Bursary

Responsible to: Health and Safety Officer (via Head Porter at King’s College)

Responsibility:

To work across two Cambridge Colleges (Trinity Hall and King’s College). To proactively advise Fellows, Heads of Departments, and Staff on the maintenance of fire, health and safety policies and procedures that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the Colleges, providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support. The role holder will be expected to liaise with officers from the University’s Occupational Health and Safety Service’s Safety Office, as well as the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), the Environment Agency (EA) and local Fire Protection Officers.

Salary: £38,000 per annum
Contract type: Permanent, full-time, Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Person specification: 

We are seeking a Health and Safety Adviser to work across King’s College and Trinity Hall in Cambridge.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience within a health and safety role along with experience in fire safety.  Understanding of the higher education, research council or research sections would be desirable.

You should hold the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and equivalent IOSH Certificate along with relevant Fire Safety Certificates, and a training qualification would be desirable.

This position also requires:

⦁ Good negotiating skills;
⦁ Good planning and organisational skills;
⦁ Excellent interpersonal and good written and verbal communication skills;
⦁ The ability to work on own initiative to organise, schedule and lead audits, liaison meetings and working groups, and also collaborate with colleagues in both Colleges;
⦁ The ability to deliver training (desirable).
