VSL International (UK) have an exciting opportunity available for an Environmental Apprentice to be based from our site offices in Rickmansworth. You would be supporting our teams who are working on the KVJV joint venture.  

The KVJV is a Joint Venture between Keller Limited and VSL Systems (UK) Ltd a Member of Bouygues Construction contracted on the LOT C1 – ‘Chiltern Tunnels and Colne Valley Viaduct’ for High Speed Two (HS2) Limited. 

Job Purpose

We have an opportunity for a person with an environmental science and/or environmental planning background and an interest in civil engineering and major infrastructure projects to work with the team in effectively managing the environmental risks and impacts of the project. This will only be achieved through successfully collaborating with all other parts of the organisation, providing engagement and support as required. The candidate must therefore be a strong communicator and networker.

Key to the role is working closely with other teams across the KVJV to secure accurate information. The role holder will gain knowledge of relevant environmental legislation for water, waste, dust, noise, and ecology.

The individual will work within the KVJV’s environment team and provide support to all members of this team, ranging from assisting in developing environmental reports, data collection, admin support, assisting with on-site inspections and attending site coordination meetings.

In the context of UK environmental law and HS2 Ltd obligations and requirements, KVJV has developed a framework of environmental management provisions that the role holder will support the continuing improvement and implementation of. The successful applicant will therefore gain a comprehensive understanding of how a major infrastructure project effectively manages its environmental risks and responsibilities and in so doing secures/protects its own reputation and that of the client.

Responsibilities

The Environmental Apprentice will be responsible for:

Providing key support services to the on-site environmental and technical specialist teams. This is anticipated to comprise:
data collation, analysis and reporting
document/records management
undertaking some site activities in support of site environmental managers
Skills & Experience                  

We are looking for a candidate with:

A background in environmental planning / sciences
An interest major infrastructure project
Good IT skills
Evidence of team working skills
Good project management skills
An ability to take initiative,
An ability to find solutions
An ability to work independently.
